It was not simply that I preach; there was a necessity laid on me and I could not help it. This call was such that life would be miserable if I did not do it. My call was connected with a voluntary service; something that I prayed would show the inclination, disposition and desire of my soul to God. I submitted voluntarily to trials, in denying myself, in being willing to forgo comforts that I might lawfully enjoy to promote the Gospel. My heart is in the thing; I love the work.
